2013 Recap

2013 was such a crazy year, kind of like 2012.  :-)  We show no signs of slowing down, although Michael and I are both starting to feel like we want to settle.  It has only taken us almost 5 years of marriage.  But here is the Funk 2013 year in review, be prepared, it is long!

We started 2013 with a bang by going to the fiesta bowl!

K-state lost but it was still fun.  In January we also got to ski Steamboat for the first time. Ahmazing! And Michael found his love of ski biking.

Michael's parents came to visit in March and we toured a Hammond's candy in Denver.

While they were in town, we found out we were expecting!

Also in the beginning of the year Michael was offered the promotion to salt lake.  To help us make our decision, we took a trip to Moab while I was really early in the pregnancy, at the end of March.

Well, you know the rest, we decided to accept the promotion and put our house up for sale!

Michael started work in April in Salt Lake but I had things I needed to finish up in Denver.  One of those things was speaking at a conference in Montreal.  Fun times.

At the end of May we went to a Bassnectar concert with my sister for her birthday.  This was the night before we officially left Colorado.

Utah held many new scenic adventures.

And we really enjoyed using the fire pits at a local national park.  Mmm, smores!

We also took some time this summer to visit Yellowstone, so beautiful.

We celebrated our 4th anniversary in Utah, complete with dinner and a play.  I was just starting to show from the pregnancy.

My sister came to visit for a couple days while Michael was traveling.  It was fun showing her around Salt Lake.

For the 4th of July we took a trip to Steamboat Springs, CO and camped with friends.

Michael's parents came out to visit in the fall.  We had to show them Utah as well.  By then, you could tell I was going to have a baby!

We have fun messing around in Ikea with them.

And of course they needed to feel Carson move!  Although at that time, we didn't know if Carson was a boy or girl!

They bought us our first baby item, a high chair!  I should pull that out and have Carson sit in there while we are eating.

We also took a trip to Zion and Bryce National parks.  This trip was just so much fun.  We had a great time.

Our favorite trip this year was more of a vacation, and it was to Big Bear California for a close friend's wedding.

Look at that belly!

My mom came with my little brother and sister right before Halloween, so we went to a corn maze and carved pumpkins.

By now we are nearing November, when I was due!  I went from looking like this...

Eight Weeks
To looking like this!

40 Weeks
We had maternity photos done by our amazing sister in law, and they turned out great.

After that we took a short trip to Vegas.

Went to a Utah football game.

And got ready for our baby!

Who you all know was born on November 27th, the day before Thanksgiving.

Boy has our lives changed, but it is good.

Before we knew it, it was time for Christmas and our boy was four weeks old.  Michael's parents celebrated Christmas in Utah this year, that was a first!  Well, it was a first for us too.  :-)

In 2013, we became a family of 3.  I realized as I was typing this that I spent basically all of 2013 pregnant.  Kind of weird to think about.

My mom came back to visit with my little brother and sis for New Year.

And that is our year in review.  So crazy.  I wonder what 2014 will bring?  So many firsts in 2013 happened, what will 2014 be known for?

2013 Firsts:

-Living in Utah
-Living far from family
-Visiting 4 national parks
-Staying in a bed and breakfast
-being pregnant
-having a baby
-selling a house
-kissing my son
-Christmas away from Kansas
-Thanksgiving in a hospital
and I'm sure there was more

Happy New Year everyone!

Bryce Canyon National Park

Sunday morning we woke up and walked to a coffee shop close by for some lattes and breakfast.  We got our treats to go and sat up on the "observation deck" above the pool to enjoy our breakfast.  We had a little fun taking panoramic photos of Springdale, Utah.

After our delicious breakfast, we headed out to Bryce Canyon.  Here is our view as we were driving by the mouth of Zion.

We had to travel up a windy road to a tunnel to get by Zion and on our way to Bryce.  It was a GORGEOUS morning!

Going through the tunnel!

On the other side!

It was such a scenic drive!  Bryce Canyon was about 2 hours from where we were in Springdale.  We didn't really know what to expect in Bryce Canyon.  As we were getting close, we went by another State Park called Red Canyon. It had a couple fun tunnels.

And then we made it to Bryce!  Are you guys ready for this, I don't think you are.

Nope, this isn't really it.  I'm not sure you are ready for the scenery.  We were shocked.  Michael and I have never seen anything like it.

BAM!  Take a look at these photos!

This is Bryce Canyon, isn't it amazing!

They had some trails that went down into the canyon, but they were pretty steep and we decided not to risk it with me.  I would love to come back and do some of these hikes though!

I was afraid to get too close to the edge. :-)

A little info on the park
All those spires you see are called Hoodoos.

Michael likes pretzels

Another part of Bryce.

On our way out of Bryce, we stopped at the Red Canyon park (with the tunnels) and took some self shots.  Fun times.

It was a super quick trip, just Saturday and Sunday, so a lot of driving, but so worth it!  If you ever get a chance to visit either of these parks, DO IT!  :-)
