Lake Time

This past weekend we finally made some plans for an adventure!  We were supposed to go paddleboarding for our anniversary, but our reservation was cancelled due to wind.  So we set up another reservation for this past Sunday.

It was a perfect day at the reservoir.  We invited my sister down and prepared for a fun day by the water, or at least half day.

Paddleboarding was amazing.  I love it!  I really wish I lived close to the water and could paddle way more frequently then my once a year occurrence.

We got my sister out there to try it out as well and she loved it too. Maybe we can go in on a board together...

Aunt Jamie and Carson had a good time while Mike and I paddleboarded.

It was a hot day so we did have to get Carson into his swimsuit and take him into the lake.  I was a little worried about it at first because the water was so dirty, but then I remembered this is real life and I don't want Carson to live in a bubble.  The kid is just going to have to develop an immune system!  :-)  Mmm, lake water.  But Carson had a great time in the lake.  Seriously, this kid LOVES water.

We found this little frog and were trying to show it to Carson, but it moved too quick so he didn't ever really see it.  We just put it on his head and he didn't notice!  We are such terrible parents.

What a great day.  We left around 2pm and then hung out at the house and were lazy for the rest of the day. :-)

Carson goes to Cabelas

Well hey there everybody!  I thought I would give you a short update on our weekend and what has been happening here.  Carson is seven weeks old on Wednesday.  Michael and I are really starting to get a routine with Carson and Carson is starting to level out.  I say that, but then last night he was so fussy that all he did was cry for an hour.

Carson still loves to be walked around, continuously.  And I mean, continuously!  My moby wrap has been put to good use lately and I have learned how to put it on better so he can sleep comfortably in it.

My little boy has started smiling occasionally.  He still will not smile on command, but in the mornings and at other times throughout the day he will smile when I talk to him.  :-)

I love this pic of him in his new jammies.  He looks so sleepy!  Man I love this kid!

This last weekend we were supposed to go to Colorado to visit, but the weather ended up forcing us to cancel.  On Saturday we were looking for something to do so we went to Cabelas.  Michael had some gift cards to use there, so we decided to buy a tent that would fit our family for camping this next year!!  We are so excited to take Carson camping.   He had a great time walking around the store and looking at everything.

We bought a small impulse buy while we were there, a coffee percolator for camping and for using on a stove.  We were so excited about it that we had a campfire breakfast on Sunday morning consisting of pan fried bacon, breakfast burritos and percolated coffee!  Can't wait to camp!

Carson has been enjoying car rides more lately.  He used to scream as soon as you put him in the seat.  He does pretty well now, although he still gets fussy if he doesn't fall asleep in there.

For my birthday, Michael let me go skiing Sunday afternoon while he watched Carson in the ski lodge.  Alta has this deal for only $5.00 that you can ski after 3pm on several lifts.  It was the perfect amount of time for me.  I am definitely not in the shape I used to be.  But it was so much fun and the snow was great!

Oh yeah, extreme terrain!

My little happy bear.  He is so funny.

My, what big eyes you have.

We are starting to do so much better since Carson is getting a little more portable.  We were both really struggling with being stuck in our little apartment all day every day.  Cabin fever is no fun. And we didn't want to try to get together or invite too many people over since we didn't want to get him sick.  That and we really don't know too many people.  We are so happy he is here though.  We love you Carson boy.

2013 Recap

2013 was such a crazy year, kind of like 2012.  :-)  We show no signs of slowing down, although Michael and I are both starting to feel like we want to settle.  It has only taken us almost 5 years of marriage.  But here is the Funk 2013 year in review, be prepared, it is long!

We started 2013 with a bang by going to the fiesta bowl!

K-state lost but it was still fun.  In January we also got to ski Steamboat for the first time. Ahmazing! And Michael found his love of ski biking.

Michael's parents came to visit in March and we toured a Hammond's candy in Denver.

While they were in town, we found out we were expecting!

Also in the beginning of the year Michael was offered the promotion to salt lake.  To help us make our decision, we took a trip to Moab while I was really early in the pregnancy, at the end of March.

Well, you know the rest, we decided to accept the promotion and put our house up for sale!

Michael started work in April in Salt Lake but I had things I needed to finish up in Denver.  One of those things was speaking at a conference in Montreal.  Fun times.

At the end of May we went to a Bassnectar concert with my sister for her birthday.  This was the night before we officially left Colorado.

Utah held many new scenic adventures.

And we really enjoyed using the fire pits at a local national park.  Mmm, smores!

We also took some time this summer to visit Yellowstone, so beautiful.

We celebrated our 4th anniversary in Utah, complete with dinner and a play.  I was just starting to show from the pregnancy.

My sister came to visit for a couple days while Michael was traveling.  It was fun showing her around Salt Lake.

For the 4th of July we took a trip to Steamboat Springs, CO and camped with friends.

Michael's parents came out to visit in the fall.  We had to show them Utah as well.  By then, you could tell I was going to have a baby!

We have fun messing around in Ikea with them.

And of course they needed to feel Carson move!  Although at that time, we didn't know if Carson was a boy or girl!

They bought us our first baby item, a high chair!  I should pull that out and have Carson sit in there while we are eating.

We also took a trip to Zion and Bryce National parks.  This trip was just so much fun.  We had a great time.

Our favorite trip this year was more of a vacation, and it was to Big Bear California for a close friend's wedding.

Look at that belly!

My mom came with my little brother and sister right before Halloween, so we went to a corn maze and carved pumpkins.

By now we are nearing November, when I was due!  I went from looking like this...

Eight Weeks
To looking like this!

40 Weeks
We had maternity photos done by our amazing sister in law, and they turned out great.

After that we took a short trip to Vegas.

Went to a Utah football game.

And got ready for our baby!

Who you all know was born on November 27th, the day before Thanksgiving.

Boy has our lives changed, but it is good.

Before we knew it, it was time for Christmas and our boy was four weeks old.  Michael's parents celebrated Christmas in Utah this year, that was a first!  Well, it was a first for us too.  :-)

In 2013, we became a family of 3.  I realized as I was typing this that I spent basically all of 2013 pregnant.  Kind of weird to think about.

My mom came back to visit with my little brother and sis for New Year.

And that is our year in review.  So crazy.  I wonder what 2014 will bring?  So many firsts in 2013 happened, what will 2014 be known for?

2013 Firsts:

-Living in Utah
-Living far from family
-Visiting 4 national parks
-Staying in a bed and breakfast
-being pregnant
-having a baby
-selling a house
-kissing my son
-Christmas away from Kansas
-Thanksgiving in a hospital
and I'm sure there was more

Happy New Year everyone!
