We happened to visit Moab during a themed weekend. Some sort of Jeep Jamboree. So there were jeeps as far as the eye could see, everywhere! We were held up in the town of Moab for a half an hour as they made a procession through town.
On Saturday morning we decided to ride the slick rock trail, a famous trail in Moab. It was an amazing trail. It is literally just slabs of rock. You are riding on hills of rock the whole time.
They had the trail lined out for you with white paint on the rocks.
It was a way cool ride, I highly recommend it! Again, perfect weather. You were perfect in the sun, maybe a little warm, and then cool in the shade.
After riding the slick rock trail, we had a picnic lunch.
We then went into town to rest for a bit and get some ice cream. After our little town excursion, Michael needed to ride his bike some more (of course), and he wanted to do the other famous Moab trail called Porcupine Rim, which is a 14 mile descent. Someone has to drop you off and pick you up, so I graciously did this for my biking fanatic husband.
These are the photos that he took. He said that it was a grueling descent, but very picturesque.
While he was biking, I had to drive to the pick up point, and happened to see some of the jeep jamboree people in action.
It looks like a really expensive hobby to me. I don't think I would like sitting and driving in a car/jeep all day. I don't really see the "wow" factor, but to each their own.
That night, we were both pretty beat, Michael especially. So we just relaxed around the campsite and Michael cleaned the bikes.
Yes, this is not our dog. We camped by a group of families who were all camping together and they kind of adopted us into their group. We hung out by the fire every night with them. They were a really fun group with a ton of kids. Most of them were from Salt Lake City.
I tried to get this picture so you could see the campsite, the tent is behind Michael and the bike and we had all these rocks to the back of us. On Easter morning, we climbed to the top of this little hill to watch the sun come up and had our own little Easter service. It will be one of the most memorable services Michael and I have ever had. As the sun came up and we were reading the story, it was really touching, and we couldn't help thinking that the landscape probably looked similar to Israel. We kind of felt transported in a way.
Later I found out that Moab is actually named for the area called "moab" over in Israel ( I guess where the philistines lived, and maybe the moabites?), because the landscape is so similar. How cool is that?
Sunday we just did our little Easter service and then packed up to drive home. Moab is about six hours away from Denver and we had stuff to do to prep for work. We were really tired too, you never sleep that good on the ground. It was a great trip though and I think we will be camping in Moab again for sure.
