Christmastime...was here.

Well folks, we made it for Christmas, but it was perilous. After I got off work on Tuesday, I found out that I didn't have to go into work the next day until 5am, instead of 3am. Well, that information combined with knowledge of this huge storm that was supposed to be coming through eastern Colorado and Kansas made it sound like we would never get back for Christmas. I called up my boss and explained the situation and we were able to head out Tuesday night! We left and 7pm and little did we know what awaited us.

That night consisted of us traveling 40mph to Limon and past, all the while I am calling my mom and having her look at the weather to see when we were going to get through the storm. We finally came out of it around 1am, but it was really foggy, so even though the roads were dry, you couldn't see what was coming.

Then we hit more bad weather. This time, an ice storm. If you have never driven through an ice storm, I don't suggest it, in fact, avoid it at all costs! We had to stop and scrape off the window twice, and then we also had to pull over and scrape off the whole car in Hays, KS. Take a look!

This was how much ice was on our car! We have a fully imprinted ice block with the letters of my plate.

It was pretty miserable. We were tired and going crazy by the time we got an hour from Newton, KS. We finally arrived at Mike's parents house at 6:15am their time (central). They had just woken up, what a surprise! the trip took us over 10 hours and we drove all night long! It was worth the surprise though.

We were so happy to have the whole day Christmas eve. We hung out with the fam and went to Christmas Eve service. then had the famous appetizers and present opening at the Funks.
Mike made tortilla pizzas and I made bacon/ranch pinwheels.

We all opened gifts, everyone was so generous. mike and I got a new set of pans...hallelujah! Now we can cook...better. We could cook before, but we had such a variety of pans without lids. Gina gave me a purse, it was so cute, but it somehow ended up as the hat of the evening.
Just us opening presents, ignore my husband's weird face, you get used to it!
Of course, what is vacation without a hot tub? No a vacation! Hehe. Anyway, I am relaxing my time away, but I think we are going to try to go for a jog today. We really need the exercise. Merry Christmas everyone! Hope yours was as awesome as mine!
