Grey Rock

Yay!! So I finally took some pics this weekend! Now you can all see us again instead of just reading my boring posts without any pictures. Its kind of like books. Everybody loves the book more if it has picures. Anyway...

We had a really fun weekend. Not only did we get to do a ton of fun stuff, but it was just good all around! Mike had Saturday off, we got to hang with a ton of friends, and we got to make new friends!

Friday night we went and played poker at a friends house. I had never played real poker before...and it was a blast! I actually won a hand, with nothing in my hand at first! Our friend Reuban from church kept betting every game, crazily, and he actually ended up winning in the end, when he had almost no chips left.

Saturday we were able to do a 6mile roundtrip hike to Grey Rock with some friends. We left our house at about 10am on Saturday, after making some delicious french toast for breakfast. I'll tell you, french toast is like the ultimate power hiking food. You get sugared and carbed up to take you up that mountain.
The group consisted of me, Mike, Mike's friend and previous roommate Lawrence, my friend Miriam from classes, and Miriam's roommate Katie. It seemed pretty cold to start, but the sun was shining so it looked like it would warm up quite nicely! It really was a beautiful day! Have a look.
Mike going up the trail. Then Miriam (dark hair) and her roommate Katie.
Mike and Lawrence going up the trail.
All us girls! Of course Miriam had to close her eyes! Of course...
As always, the arm out couples shot.
Mike climbed up in some rocks for a photo op.
Again, more boys playing around rocks.
yet again...boys and rocks. Hmmm, there is a theme.
Here we are at the summit! What a view! It was really pretty...and pretty darn cold!!!!!! I was freezing at the top there! You gain about 2,000 feet of elevation on the hike.
Here is the group! I feel like we should have had a flag and a sign for the photo.
The way down was kind of treacherous. Not only was there a ton of ankle spraining opportunities, but the farther down we got, the more ice there was on the trail, so you just had your feet taken out from under you. All of us girls probably fell at least 5 times, and the guys seemed to be able to catch themselves better, but they almost fell a lot too. By the end, we were all tired and ready to get cleaned up, but happy from a beautiful day in the mountains.

Saturday night we had a surprise birthday party to go to for Michael's friend Adam's 30th birthday. Wow, say that fast 5 times. I had trouble typing that, I didn't know where the apostrophes needed to go! Adam is my friend Shelley's husband. Shelley did a great job of hiding the party. Adam had no idea! It was a great night of food and fellowship.

Sunday after church was the first meeting of the new young adult group. Right now our church has small groups for the adults, the college age, and the young adults with kids, but not really for those people that may be either married or single, but out of college, working, and who don't have kids. A kind of older, more mature college group. We couldn't figure out a name for the group, for some reason we were all bad at coming up with an acronym that actually sounds like something, but we all had a fun time. Mike made some new friends and was excited to kind of hang with more people his age.

And here comes the culmination of our weekend. Sunday afternoon we tried to go for a bike ride up around horsetooth dam. Mike and his friend Chris Kyle went all the way around. I had to turn around, why you ask? Not because I was out of shape! I made it up all the hills without walking! (yay me!) but because my bike broke!!!! it won't shift up anymore. And lawrence's bike was having problems too, so we both turned around. Sunday night was just grocery shopping, catching up with my side of the family, and getting ready for the week. We rented the movie, Surrogates, with Bruce Willis and watched that. Pretty good movie, and then went to bed early.

Now tell me that doesn't sound like an awesome weekend!
