Vail weekend-ride 1

I eluded in some other posts that for Michael's birthday, we headed to gorgeous Vail, CO, to spend the weekend. Actually, it was Gypsum, CO, which is 30min from Vail, but close enough. We had a blast. Thursday we left at 5pm, rush hour of course, and stopped in Dillon at a restaurant for dinner. We arrived at Jarid and Susie's about 8:30pm. Our weekend of fun had begun!

Friday we made plans to go for a road bike ride with Jarid in the afternoon after he got off work. so friday morning we had a leisurely morning of coffee drinking, then off for breakfast burritos. these were the best breakfast burritos ever! It was this place called Bamboons. Mike's burrito actually had a biscuit and gravy chopped up in it along with the sausage, eggs, and hashbrowns! Mine had pepperjack cheese, steak, and mushrooms with my hashbrowns and eggs. Both were delicious and we let them settle for 3 hours before we even attempted to ride!
As you can see, we started on this beautiful road in Eagle, heading up to the mountains. we were biking to Sylvan Lake.
Then, our trail turned to dirt! Road bikes on dirt=no bueno, but we still forged ahead. About an hour in, I was beat, it was uphill the whole way. I can tell you that i was so happy to see that lake in the distance!

Had to do the photo of us. Look at the snow on the bank behind us! We did see snow up there, but not a ton.

Now downhill the whole way back!

so pretty, I wish we could have had a picnic, although my burrito was still sustaining me well.

End of the ride, of course mike had to get me with my hand in front of my face. Jarid is the other guy in the picture.

That night, we had a family birthday party for Mike, Jarid, Jarid's sister Beth, and Susie's mom. so many november birthdays! Susie made tres leches cake and it was to die for! Let's just say that after our ride and the fact we skipped lunch, mike and I had healthy appetites for pizza and cake. that was day one, more to come on the Vail weekend!
